About

The Association for Independent filMedia (AIM) is a newly formed organization focused on supporting independent film, video and new media projects and the people who make and love them, through a variety of programs and services.

Our Past

Although recently founded, AIM truly began several years ago as an Austin-based community group called Austin Film Meet. The group originally started on Meetup.com as Austin Filmmakers Meetup, and then became Austin Film Meet when H.Cherdon Bedford was appointed as the official founder and primary organizer. Under Cherdon’s leadership, the mixer grew from a drinking social with a handful of people to a large community of power networking filmmakers and video professionals and hobbyists.

More than 200 Community Film Events

Prior to forming AIM, the Austin Film Meet volunteer staff produced and hosted a wide range of events servicing the local Austin film, video and new media community. For more than two years, we hosted weekly events on a wide variety of topics from Actors Showcases to Equipment Show and Tells to Guest Presentations to Reels Showcases and much more.

Looking to the Future

Now, after three successful years, the Austin Film Meet volunteer staff points their efforts towards the future under a totally new brand, an national brand, intended to reach an audience outside the Central Texas region: the Association of Independent filMedia.

Austin Film Meet

Austin Film Meet is a support, networking and collaboration group bringing together local indie film and media makers of all types and skill levels in a fun, friendly atmosphere. We focus on raising skill levels and professionalism through increased awareness, education and experience. We encourage a sense of community and a pay-it-forward attitude within our group. We believe in helping each other help each other. By working together, we accomplish more, faster and better. We’ve been called “the group that gets things done” and “an AA for indie filmmaking junkies”. We are producers, directors, actors, crew, artists, promoters, writers, photographers, cinematographers, designers, grips, gaffers, sound mixers & recordists, sound designers, musicians, composers, coordinators, and more! It takes a village to raise a film!

We Do It with Minimal Funding

Although we are under-funded and 100% volunteer-powered, we offer a variety of programs to benefit our members and the community at large. See a list of our Programs.
